Since it was settled in 1882 and incorporated in 1948, Woodland residents have guarded its trees, topography, and the lake. Lush wooded areas and spontaneous vegetation growth are more common here than typical suburban landscaping. More than half of Woodland's homes have access to Lake Minnetonka. Many residences are on large lots of two acres or more. A charming exception is the Groveland Assembly Ground, a 41-home, lakeside community that evolved from an early 1900s Methodist summer retreat campground: tent sites turned to summer cottages to year-round homes.
